Enzymes, as highly efficient biocatalysts, are essentially proteins. The spatial conformation of proteinsis the core basis for maintaining enzyme activity and catalytic efficiency. The structure is highly sensitive to changes in environmental conditions such as temperature, pH value, and ions. Temperature is one of the key factors affecting enzyme activity and catalytic efficiency, and is also a core parameter in industrial enzyme applications.

Baico Biotech BBT Enzymes is a textile enzyme and household detergent enzyme manufacturer in China. BBT Enzyme conducted enzyme activity tests on neutral cellulase at 40℃ and 50℃ to evaluate the temperature effect on cellulase activity. All other experimental conditions, including pH value, substrate concentration, enzyme dosage, and reaction time, were kept consistent. The test results showed that the enzyme activity at 50℃ was significantly higher than that at 40℃. A slight temperature increase of merely 10℃ brings a substantial leap in the catalytic efficiency of cellulase, fully demonstrating the vital of temperature.

From a microscopic perspective, rising temperature accelerates the molecular movement rate within the reaction system. It greatly increases the frequency of effective collisions between cellulase and the substrate sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-Na), speeds up the specific binding of enzymes and substrates, and improves the product formation rate.

This temperature characteristic endows cellulase with prominent process advantages in applications such as textile processing. BBT’s compound enzymes RF838- K(D) and RF838-W(D) both contain neutral cellulase, enabling bio-polishing during bio-scouring at a working temperature of 55℃. Under this temperature condition, the enzyme efficiently removes fuzz from the fiber surface, improving fabric smoothness and anti-pilling performance.

Nevertheless, temperature exerts dual regulatory effects on enzyme performance, acting as a typical double-edged sword. Moderate temperature rise helps activate the catalytic potential of enzymes and improve catalytic efficiency. However, blindly increasing the temperature beyond the enzyme's tolerance threshold will destroy the spatial conformation of the protein, leading toa sharp decline or even complete loss of enzyme activity and catalytic ability. Therefore, high temperature cannot be blindly pursued to improve efficiency in industrial applications. It is essential to strike a balance between "accelerating the reaction by temperature rise" and "enzyme inactivation under excessive temperature", so as to screen out the optimal reaction temperature matching the characteristics of cellulase.
